Germany Face Armenia in First Home Game

Germany head coach Hansi Flick has announced his squad for the upcoming 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The squad includes a number of high-profile players, such as Bayern Munich's Joshua Kimmich and Manchester City's Ilkay Gundogan.

Germany will face Armenia in their first home game of the World Cup qualifiers on 5th September 2021, before a trip to Iceland on 8th September 2021. Flick will be hoping to lead Germany to victory in the qualifiers and secure a place at the World Cup finals in Qatar.

Flick's Playing Career

As a player, Flick was a midfielder who played 104 matches for Bayern Munich and scored five goals between 1985 and 1990. He won four Bundesliga titles during his time at the club.

After retiring from playing, Flick moved into coaching. He worked as an assistant coach at Bayern Munich under Jupp Heynckes and Niko Kovac, before being appointed as head coach in 2019.

Flick led Bayern Munich to a historic treble in his first season in charge, winning the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League. He was named FIFA Men's Coach of the Year for 2020.

Flick left Bayern Munich in 2021 and was appointed as head coach of the German national team in August 2021.
