Early Life and Political Beginnings

Juan Evo Morales Ayma was born on October 26, 1959, in Isallavi, Bolivia. Hailing from a humble background, Morales rose to prominence as a labour leader, advocating for the rights of indigenous and coca farmers.

Presidency and Legacy

In 2006, Morales became the first indigenous president of Bolivia. His presidency was marked by significant social and economic reforms, particularly in areas such as poverty reduction and the nationalisation of industries.

Morales's tenure was also controversial, with allegations of corruption and authoritarianism. He sought a fourth term in office in 2019, but the results of the election were disputed, leading to mass protests and his eventual resignation.

Exile and Return

Following his resignation, Morales fled to Argentina, where he lived in exile for almost a year. In November 2020, he crossed back into Bolivia and continues to be a vocal figure in Bolivian politics.
